Hello & Welcome
When prospective families visit our pre-primary school the first things they remark on are the sounds of happy children, our uniquely contemporary ‘home-away-from-home environment’ with our spacious classrooms and our child-centric play area. We are passionate about children learning to make sense of the world around them and believe that children should be children for as long as possible.
Our purpose-built school, which opened its doors in 2016, embraces its u-shape courtyard design which allows our little ones a feeling of comfort and freedom. The interior is joyful and playful and we take inspiration from our beautiful indigenous 41-acre iThemba Campus which is uniquely situated overlooking the Valley of 1000 Hills. Our boys and girls, who range from the ages of 12 months to Grade 00, learn and blossom through teacher-directed play and are free to be themselves in our safe, warm and happy space.

History & Identity
Founded in 1974, Waterfall Pre-Primary was previously known as Crossroads Pre-Primary and was originally based in the leafy suburb of Waterfall. For over 20 years and under the leadership of Dawn Crookes, this much-loved school, had a strong reputation providing an excellent foundation for young boys and girls in our Upper Highway community.
Our current Principal, Paula Mason, took the reins in 2012 and the school relocated twice as the team sought the perfect space to take root and flourish.
Fortunately, the school was purchased by a local businessman in 2015 and the team was delighted to relocate to brand new premises on the picturesque iThemba Campus in Hillcrest. The first little feet ran into the school gates in January 2016 with 40 boys and girls enrolled.
Today we have a thriving school with over 150 children, including a passionate team of eight teachers, seven teacher assistants, six interns and three aftercare teachers. In 2018, well-known Early Childhood Development expert, Sharron Lane, was appointed as Director and through the combined knowledge of Sharron and Paula the curriculum has been enhanced to ensure joyful learning through play for our little ones. Our team is delighted that a few of the first Crossroads ‘graduates’ from the 70s and 80s have now enrolled their children at our school. Waterfall Pre-Primary children have the opportunity to continue their educational journey on campus through our integral connection with Waterfall Prep and College- as their feeder school.
Our Christian world view is at the centre of everything we do and is integral to our daily lives, how we care and the way in which our parents, children and team feel valued. We are excited to continue to step forward as we see exciting development on the iThemba Campus and look forward to seeing our first pupils matriculate from Waterfall College in 2032.
